  • Project GRIT – Growth, Resilience, Instinct, Tenacity

Music education profoundly and positively impacts a child's trajectory. It can open new career paths, improve educational results, and enhance a child's sense of self. The GRIT Program strives to bring these life-changing opportunities to all children in our community.

Our music program is a testament to the power of collaboration. It's a joint effort with Salt Lake City School District members and the Utah State Board of Education. By strategically partnering exclusively with Title I schools, Project GRIT is part of a larger community effort to close the opportunity gap for at-risk students. It provides daily, high-quality music and instrument instruction at no cost to students!

Today, over 300 students benefit from world-class music lessons across our three partner schools: City Academy (7-12), the Guadalupe School (K-6), and Mountain View Elementary (K-5). These students, many of whom come from challenging backgrounds, have shown remarkable progress and growth academically and personally thanks to the GRIT Program. None of this would be possible without the generous support of individual donors, foundations, corporations, and government entities who make these critically important programs accessible to marginalized youth who need it most. We invite you to become a supporter by making an online donation to Project GRIT or by contacting giving@giftedmusicschool.org.

GMS is dedicated to bringing Project GRIT to as many students as possible because we know that when children receive quality music education, their potential for success increases in almost every area of their lives. More than that, our students’ success becomes the community’s success as they grow into college graduates, engaged citizens, community leaders, and supporters of the arts.

Project GRIT is a full-scholarship division bringing music lessons to the most at-risk children. Consistent musical training provides a pathway to success, and we believe it should be accessible to all!
